How to tie a figure of 8 knot

A figure of 8 knot is the easiest knot to tie, I’ll be teaching you how to tie a figure of 8 knot. This can be really usefull.

1. First of all, make a loop with your rope.

2. Then you twist the loop once so that it looks like this.

3. Next you grab rope A and place it through the loop.

4. Now you pull both lines of the rope and you should have a knot that looks like an 8.

Now you know how to tie a figure of 8 knot, this should be easy for anyone that tries this but if you failed, I’d probably read this again. If you succeed, thumbs up!

Triathlon day recount

Last Friday on the 22nd of November the seniors had a Triathlon day and I am doing a recount of team race when my team was doing it. My team is Flin and Dylan. I hope enjoy my recount of triathlon day.

Triathlon Day Recount

“Go” shouts a teacher, and their off. Flin starts biking and everyone are in their positions and  Dylan waits to get high fived on the hand. Flin finds it difficult to come first and is probably tired after 5 minutes. He tags Dylan and he goes into the pool. For a while I thought he would have not finished it and took a long time and I was getting a bit worried but then I saw him and also saw Sam waiting for his partner. ‘Oh no’ I thought in my head, ‘Sams gonna eventually beat me.’ “Come on Dylan!” I yell, and he comes walking to me and tags me to run. I get to the playground and see Zach, and he runs with me after I got past him. “Hey” Zach says,

“what are you doing”

I reply,

“trying to beat you”

Zach replies back.

“Get out”

I say to Zach,

“Ok”

Zach replies.

I keep on running until my good conscience says ‘Don’t look back!’ and my evil conscience says

‘look back!’, I look back and Sam was coming, ‘told you so’ the good conscience replies. I trie to get past Ollie and the girl in front of me, and I beat her but I was far from beating Ollie. I breathe heavily and sounded weird and Elijah running by my side, my legs were getting tired and felt like collapsing onto the grass. I keeped on running and then....                                    Sam ran past me and thought ‘oh man,’ I get to the finish line and say to Teva “You got to the finish line before Sam.” Then I walk over to Elijah and smile, then collapsed onto the grass. lying down on the grass brang my strength back to start walking instead of lying on the grass forever.

“For those who want a swim can you please have it now and then you after the swim you can have your morning tea” says a teacher, “Yah!” I say.

Optimist yachting 4

Today we were kayaking with room 20 and the wind was pretty strong to kayak in, I have created an ptimist yachting and kayaking reflection. I've also created a taxedo of my reflection. Please comment. :)

Reflection for Yachting/Kayaking:Day 4

Something I was pleased with was how nobody tipped their kayaks over and fall into the water because if they did tip their kayaks they would need help to get land.

I really enjoyed learning how to push my kayak into the water because I would get stuck on land and get back into the water.

Something I found hard was controlling the main sheet because it would sometimes come off and we almost sank our yacht!

Something that made me think was which way to paddle on the kayak because I would have to paddle right to go left and left to go right.

Something I want to get better at is kayaking. (What can I do about it?) Paddle strong and rest my legs and arms when tired.

Letter to Ken Catran

Today room 16 have been writing letters to the author of Dead Harry. Dead Harry is a pretty cool and awesome story that could inspire you, your teacher or even family to read more of the book. Dear Ken Catran,

I love your book about how Harry died and Sam being in a lot of trouble. Sam being in trouble reminded me of my brother and I being in trouble because we fight a lot. Your story is really, really interesting and I felt really amazed and it got me thinking, what would happen next? Can we read it more?

My favourite characters in Dead Harry were Harry and Elias Milton. I like them because Mr Milton (Elias Milton), could do tricks that were freaky and cool. I chose Harry as one of my favourite characters because he’s hilarious, funny and has got heaps of humour. Harry’s like my cousin Nate (short for Nathaniel), he’s really funny like him.

My favourite parts was when Harry showed up at the graveyard of his funeral, it was pretty cool and how Elias Milton transformed into a skeleton and did some other stuff to freak out the security  guard. My third favourite part was when Harry told Sam that his password was “Stinky Sam 2“, so hilarious!

Thank you for making the book, it was so cool and amazing you know.  I liked it very much. I can connect to that because I like Mr Moriarty reading us Paul Jennings books.

Beans moment

Here is my beans moment in Waipukurau, I hope you like my Beans moment story of when I was about 7 years old.

On a wondrous and muddy Saturday I went to Waipukurau and our Coach said that we had to save our energy.

I was about 7 years old when this happened. We played about 7 teams and lost 3 games I think?

Some of the games were tough and 2 teams were little. We all had mud all over us after the first game.

Tyreese dived and had great tackles around the legs. We all had a great time and when we were facing this big team taller than us, I tackled 2 people and one of them were taller than me and the other was about 7 centimeters taller.

He cried for a little and had to toughen up.I got a sausage in a bread and it costed $1.50, it smelt really good and there sodas, cookie times.

We all went to face the kids that were bigger than all my team and even Rashaan.

He wanted to help us and he did, a tiny bit. Otane (which is our team) had to face them again!!!!

We lost against them 2 times and we also lost against the other team but at least we all tried our best and had fun.

I don’t really know all the teams names because that was in 21/9/11.

                                                                                                                             

When it was Otane's 5TH game we all jogged out onto the field, I always stayed behind in all the games and waited for Tyreese to kick the ball and we all chased it.

Tyreese, Ollie, Dylan, Gabriel, Rashaan, Grant, Zachary, Jonty And I really did some great teamwork.

The Amazing NZ wood pigeon

The NZ wood pigeon (Kereru in te reo Maori) are spectacular creatures. You might think they just fly around and eat food from our national trees but no, there’s more to Kereru than just that! Kereru  fly up to 50 km in search for food. Kereru are special to our national trees and you’ll see why in the facts soon on Life cycle. Kereru can live up to 20 years and some people think it’s alright to eat them! Read this report to find out more about this amazing bird that flies in the air.

Description:

Red beak. Red, white,blue and green feathers. Claws are red and it’s eyes are reddish. Also it looks like a pigeon (It is a pigeon, New Zealand wood pigeon). The biggest pigeon (also bird) in the entire WORLD!!!!

Habitat:

It lives in New Zealand and where they live are Kaitawa, NZ forests, parks, gardens and the forests of Northland. Kowhai tree, Tawa, Tariri, Karaka, Kohekohe, Nikau, Miro, Pigeonwood, Titoki, Supplejack, Kahikatea,  and Puriri trees. Mainly all kereru live in forests.

What they eat:

Kereru eat leaves, flowers, berries, and fruit of all the many, native and introduced trees New Zealand. Oh and also they eat some of the food off Shrubs. Their favourite food is small fruit, shoots, leaves (already said) and buds.

Threats:

People that try to eat them for their feathers and meat. Windows are also their threat, THEY’RE EVERYWHERE!!!! Windows are threats to kereru because they get killed or injured when flying into them! Possums are a threat to Kereru too, they eat baby kereru and eggs when they haven't even got a chance to be an adult!! .Cars are one of the other threats when people don’t watch where they’re going!! The biggest, threat, ever, is.........

PEOPLE DESTROYING THEIR HABITAT!!! What I mean is that some people are cutting down NZ’s trees and without trees, there’ll be nowhere for the Kereru to live. The loss of their habitat (home) has been from  Kereru falling off trees with food when getting cut down by chainsaws.

Bird Types in NZ:

Tui, Riroriro, Kakariki, bellbird, NZ falcon, Blue duck, Kiwi, Kakapo, Morepork, Kokaka and Long-tailed Cuckoo are all endemic. Theres more so if you want to see more types of birds in NZ like the Kaka ( or the others you can look here at Native birds of the NZ forests.

Actions:

Kereru can fly up to 50km in search for food.  

Life cycle:

Female Kereru has one egg per nest. Kereru eat seeds, spreading them by POO helping our native and introduced trees.The mother and father kereru take turns at sitting on the egg for 30 days!!! Kereru eat between 60 to 70 native tree food varieties. After the baby kereru receiving so much love and care, many kereru eggs and chicks do not live because of the possums and other animals. Possums and rats, occasionally stoats and cats who invade, attack, inroad and foray nests, killing them!!! Young Kereru are lucky enough to survive and are already leaving the nest after six weeks has past. Kereru can live up to 20 years, that's not so long.

Did you know?:

Did you know that Kereru are the largest pigeons in the entire world!! Did you know that Kereru are 650g and 51cms long. Did you know that Kereru are birds of the lowland forests, and forest margins. Did you know they make a slightly “coo” noise, you are most likely to see a Kereru because of it’s “whooshing” sound their wings make when flying. Kereru are our the only surviving bird since the moa with it’s beak that can open wide enough to to gulp down native fruits more than 12 millimetres in diameter, such as the Tawa tree, taraire and karaka tree.

Book character costume

Here is my Tintin costume of The adventures of Tintin the book. I had fun making my costume but I didn't really make, I just got things at the store and yeah. I had to use hair spray to make my hair orange, my normal hair color is black, brown or blackish and brownish. My brother dressed up Captain Haddock from  The adventures of Tintin. By the way, Dylan's Haddock (short for Captain Haddock) and I am Tintin. Here are the images.

Camp Kaitawa (Onopoto caves)

Here is my Onopoto caves moment in time story (but not recount). I had fun there and it was also dangerous, but fun! Hope you enjoy reading it!

Caving

“Wow it’s dark in here” I said. It’s dark and wet and the entrance out is muddy. We walked through one cave and still had to go through more caves, after 2 hours we stopped at a great place to sit down. Then we called our numbers “1,2,3,4.......” all the way to 28. After 3 caves we had to go down a ladder and climb up onto the other side. Whoosh! Went Jessica’s foot, “Watch where you're stepping Jessica because you almost hit me in the face.” “ Sorry” said Jessica. “Arrrghhh!” said Jessica  “Ha, ha, ha, ha!” replied Ellis. I thought I wasn't going to make it and then I did after 10 minutes! The class was way ahead of me, only some of them. It was raining and we stopped to have a break. After 5,4,6 or 3 caves we got to the vehicles and our driver drove us back home.

Camp Kaitawa (Touching the Kiwi)

Touching the Kiwi

Day one

Vroom, Vroom! The car goes. Everyone was already at the Pan Pac Kiwi Creche. “Oh man” I said to myself. We all walked to the front of the Kiwi Creche gate, it was big and nothing could get in except for birds of prey and mice. Cherry (the Kiwi caretaker) was calmly, carrying a box. “I bet a kiwi’s in that box”. Snap! The kiwi was angry because it was awoken from its sleep like getting woken at 2:30am in the morning. Snap! Again it was angry, when it did snap it made me blink. Its fur felt soft and spiky. It feels amazing touching the kiwi on the back, I feel incredibly lucky! I've never felt a kiwi before, it was my first time. After that we were heading back to the car, Nikkitah.H goes to the toilets. The next thing I know, a bunch of kids are going to the toilet! I think 18 or 23 kids running for their life! We all walked to our vehicles and drove to Camp Kaitawa.
